Celebrate Sauvignon Blanc Day

For International Sauvignon Blanc Day coming up on Friday, May 3, 2019, we are highlighting a DC member favorite, our Tingui Cellars Sauvignon Blanc from Chile!

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the six so-called “noble” varietals and comes to us in very wide range of styles.  The flavor and aroma profile depends on many factors…where the grapes are grown and who crafts the wine, to name just a couple.  For example, this wine, if made in the Loire Valley, will be very different from the way it’s made in New Zealand.

We sourced this wine from emerging regions in Chile, where they’ve sort of “adopted” the varietal and pretty much made it their own…with a unique and very attractive style. Our offering is exquisitely balanced with a core of luscious acidity and a profile of tropical flavors that are a hallmark of this particular grape.

The light straw color tips us off that the wine will be very subtle and refreshing.  There is ripe yellow fruit and what we wine writers call “herbaceousness,” which simply means hints of grass and straw.  These qualities are very typical of this grape.  Then come the melon flavors, like cantaloupe, along with some yellow peach.  All in all, quite pleasing and an excellent complement to Asian and Thai dishes, as well as shellfish.  Remember the “lemon law” …if you can put lemon ON it you can drink Sauvignon Blanc WITH it.
