Stivale del Sole Trebbiano Rubicone Italy 2017

Stivale del Sole Trebbiano Rubicone Italy 2017

This refreshing white offers subtle savory aromas and delicate flavors.

The Rubicone region in Italy may not be as famous as Tuscany or Piemonte, but it should be. The wines that we source from this upcoming area have proven to be favorites among Direct Cellars members. The wine hails from Italy’s east coast just south of Venice, and the leading varietal in the region is the white Trebbiano. In fact, Trebbiano is one of the most widely planted white grapes in Europe, though it has other names in many countries.

The wine is almost clear in the glass, with a faint hint of light straw yellow. The pretty apple and Meyer lemon aromatics are immediately apparent, followed by tropical fruit and melon flavors on a frame of zesty acidity. Taste carefully and you may sense golden pear and hints of minerality. The mouthfeel is quite smooth, with a delicate, lingering floral finish. Serve it chilled with Italian cheeses such as Pecorino Romano.
