Conquering your own Backyard

There’s no doubt that it’s an exciting time to be a part of Direct Cellars. In the last 12 months, we have launched the UK, Australia and now Germany.

Sometimes, it’s so easy to get caught up in what the company is doing and forget about YOUR business.

So what do all of these new countries mean for you? Maybe a lot. Maybe not so much…

I once heard Darren Hardy speak on the subject of international expansion. Soon after the launch of SUCCESS magazine, people were talking to him about new countries, new languages and new content. He went out to get his mail one day and realized that his own next-door-neighbor was not yet subscribed to the magazine. He held off on any new launches until he was satisfied that his domestic market had been sufficiently serviced.

This always stuck with me as I was building my business. Think about the challenges that arise when expanding into new markets…

· Language Barriers
· Time Zones
· Currencies and Comp Plans
· Cultural Differences
· Travel Cost

However, the most common thing I found was that people used new countries as an excuse to wait. They would tell themselves:

“Oh, I’ll be successful when we launch in…”

“Just wait until we are in…”

Or my favorite:

“I’ll be the top earner once we open up…”

The truth is, there’s no reason to wait. Success loves speed. Be successful now.

Create a story that empowers you RIGHT NOW. There are over 300 million people in the US and 60 million in the UK. Many are waiting for an opportunity just like this. Who’s going to tell them, if not you?

So conquer your own backyard before you try to conquer the world.
